Abby Stoddard, PhD, has over twenty years' experience working on issues in humanitarian assistance. Beginning her career as an aid practitioner, she worked in field and headquarters positions at CARE USA and later as Program Director for Doctors of the World (Médecins du Monde-USA). As a non-resident fellow at New York University's Center on International Cooperation, she has served as Senior Program Advisor for international humanitarian action since 2000. She is the author of Humanitarian Alert: NGO Information and its Impact on US Foreign Policy (Kumarian Press, 2006), along with numerous articles, reports, and book chapters on humanitarian action, non-governmental organizations, and the international aid architecture. She is currently writing a book on violence and ethics in wartime humanitarian action.
